Xochilt is a beloved clerk at Ramon C. Cortines School of VAPA.  She is a support to students, staff and parents and consistently goes above and beyond to help in all areas.  Her friendly, bubbly and positive personality is an asset to the Grand Arts family.

In early November, Xochilt began to experience abdominal pain.  Like many of us, due to her sense of responsibility and strong work ethic, she continued to work waiting for it to get better or a “convenient time” to see a doctor.  Mid November the pain became unbearable and she was rushed to the hospital.  Upon arrival, it was determined that she needed immediate life-saving surgery due to a ruptured cyst, which ultimately resulted in toxic sepsis. Following the surgery, she was placed in a medically induced coma.  In the rush and confusion of all of this, the hospital misplaced Xochilt’s hearing aid.

Following Thanksgiving break, the Grand Arts Staff was informed that Xochilt was in critical condition and would require a lengthy recovery.  We raised money to support Xochilt and her family through the holidays and purchased Christmas gifts for her, her partner Osman, and their children, Bella (8) and Osman Jr. (5).

Since that time, Xochilt has been in and out of ICU and making slow progress.  She remains in critical condition as she undergoes dialysis as a result of the sepsis.

This unexpected medical crisis has affected the family emotionally and financially.  At this time, Xochilt is not able to have visitors in ICU, however, cards and prayers are appreciated.  Cards can be mailed to 819 E. Kensington Road, Los Angeles, CA 90026.  It will be a long road to recovery so we are creating a GOFundMe page for people to contribute to the family to help out with increased expenses and decreased income that this health challenge has caused.
