Team Shofram will be attempting to complete a half Ironman on June 2nd in Victoria, BC. This renegade team of ragtags and misfits will come together and suffer through this ordeal in order to help raise money for Eli’s little brother, Sam, and his wife Maggie. Some background here is needed:
If you don’t know Sam, well then you’re missing out. He’s a lovable dude with a big heart and a great sense of humor. He was nicknamed Shofram as a kid while running around the family cabin in New Hampshire playing Cowboys and Indians, and it’s stuck with him ever since.
As fate would have it, some 20+ years since those days, Sam and Eli both got married this past summer and being the big brother, Eli got to go first. In July of 2018, Sam was the best man at his wedding. Just a few weeks later, Sam was diagnosed out of the blue with advanced appendix cancer. Aggressive chemotherapy treatment started immediately and in the midst of all this, Sam & Mags had the most beautiful Maine wedding celebration in September.
Sam is now undergoing final rounds of chemotherapy treatments with surgery scheduled for early February. Treatments have been successful so far, and we continue to have confidence in the medical team and the plan for beating this thing. As you can imagine, Sam and Maggie have been through hell these past 6 months and still have a long way to go. Their devotion to each other is something amazing.
So, all that being said, what Team Shofram wants to do is raise money to give Sam & Mags after surgery & recovery for whatever will best serve their needs as a newly married couple who have just undergone the most difficult time of their lives. Be it the honeymoon they were never able to take last fall or help with bills or a fun fund to create more ease & daily joy - we’ll leave it up to them how best to suit their needs with this incredible gift we hope you’ll help us meet.
