Team Roaring40s: Atlantic Rowing 2022

In December 2022 we’ll be launching our rowing boat from the Canary Islands, heading west for 3,000 nautical miles to  Antigua in the Caribbean, completely unsupported.  Dan and I will be setting off on a journey of between 40-50 days (if all goes well), swapping two hour shifts and rowing continuously until we reach the other side. Hopefully with a world record in our pockets!

To begin with, we’ll be collecting funds to enable us to complete the crossing. This will involve physical training, purchasing equipment and supplies, and educating ourselves (what we both know about ocean rowing can currently be summed up on the back of a beer mat). Beyond that we’ll be supporting our charitable partners: Ocean Generation (formerly Plastic Oceans UK). Upon completion of the event we’ll be auctioning our boat, the proceeds from which will also go to our chosen charities.

Ocean Generation are aiming to stop plastic reaching the oceans. Within a generation. It’s a huge ask, but they’re going about it by targeting the problem at its source. They educate individuals, communities, businesses, and governments. They fund scientific research, which helps influence Government policy, and they help industries push sustainable practices.

Take a look at the trailer  for their introductory film–it sums up our motivation perfectly.

To be completely frank: we need funds right now. Campaigning has begun in earnest, and it’s crucial we secure equipment and training as early as possible in order to make this challenge a reality.

We cannot wait to push off from the dock, to test ourselves physically and mentally, to inspire others, and to raise awareness for extremely worthy causes. We are immeasurably grateful to everyone who’s supported us!
