OVERVIEW
Mrs. McKay will be taking twelve sophomore boys on a college road trip to Northern Illinois University, Monmouth College, and Western Illinois University during their Spring break. In order to get there, there will be multiple fundraising opportunities going on up until the trip in April 2015. The road trip will be able to help the boys see college life on a grander level.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the road trip is to help students to start thinking seriously about college, to show them what it entails to get there academically and personally, to open their eyes to a new and safe environment, and thus giving them a chance to experience first hand what college life is really about outside of Legal Prep.
STRUCTURE
Before the trip commences there will be a ton of fundraising opportunities going on in school at Legal Prep and outside in the community. First, the students will make a promotional video by putting it on YouTube and other social media outlets to raise awareness and ask for donations. Second, there will be chocolate candy sales, as well as candy cane sales in December, done solely by the students, in which they will be selling them to their classmates in school and their community in which they live. Third, we will type up a Donation Request letter that will be sent out to all of the businesses in the area. Lastly, there will be a bar night hosted in Lincoln Park, for adults only, and again a percentage of the proceeds will go to the road trip.
GOALS AND OUTCOME
The ultimate goal of this trip is to give the students an opportunity to see things that they never have seen before. We want them to bring back not only the information and tools to succeed in college, but the drive to make themselves bigger than they already are in life after Legal Prep.
