Team Monica

Monica is a daughter, sister, wife, mom, and soon to be grandma. She is one of the best women I know and always serves others before herself. She has been taking care of others for the last 24 years; it is her turn. She deserves to be taken care of for a change. She beat cancer (lymphoma) for the first time 24 years ago, but no one thought she would have to go through it again.

In May of 2017, Monica was diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer. During her double mastectomy, the surgeon removed 23 lymph nodes and found cancer in 22 of them. Monica’s first day of chemotherapy was July 6 and will go through approximately four months of treatment to make sure all of the cancer is gone from her body.

Round 1 of chemotherapy went better than expected. Monica was sick with body aches and exhaustion, but she had no nausea or allergic reactions; both of which can send you back to urgent care.

Round 2 of chemo has been close to the same; Monica felt great for the first couple of days because of the anti-nausea shots give energy, and she was even able to get out and do some shopping. Unfortunately, she is starting to lose her hair.

We had raised enough money to cover the cost of cold caps, but they are not working. We want to come alongside them and support them financially in other ways. Chemotherapy is exhausting and damaging; Monica had to quit her job, and the bills are adding up. John, her husband, has been applying for second jobs, and is planning to drive for Uber for an indefinite amount of time. He is an amazing husband and father and would do anything for his family, but he already works so hard. We would love for him to be able to stay home on the weekends and evenings to take care of Monica and keep himself rested.

Every bit of support whether by prayer, in finances, or in love is felt and appreciated by each member of the family and we would not be able to do this aside from the presence of Jesus and all of you.

Thank you and let’s do this, Team Monica!!
