At 23 weeks gestation, baby girl Macee was diagnosed with spina bifida at L5-S1. Through the grace of God, and in a fast 10 days, both baby Macee & momma Teri qualified for fetal surgery at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston to repair the spina bifida.
It was a very difficult decision as there are many risks for momma & no guarantees for baby Macee. The benefits of surgery for Macee are reducing the chances of hydrocephalus & the need for a shunt, allowing the cerebellum to move to it's proper place in the brain, and preserving Macee's mobility while she grows in her momma. However, it is a very risky procedure for Teri & requires that Teri move to Houston & be within 30 minutes of the hospital for the rest of her pregnancy.
All of the tests came back qualifying Teri & baby Macee for surgery so it was an easy decision to take the chance to have the surgery & give baby Macee the best quality of life possible.
This meant going on medical leave, where Teri has no time-off from being a Teacher's Aide, finding a place to live & a school for big sister Breanna to finish the rest of 5th grade, yet still maintaining a household in Georgetown to allow big brother CW to finish his senior year of high school. Another blessing in this short time was that daddy Collin's job is allowing him to work remotely so that he can be by Teri's side.
In the matter of 4 days, the family uprooted & moved to Houston on a wing & many prayers.
Teri had experimental fetalscopic surgical repair of baby Macee's spina bifida at Texas Children's Hospital on Friday, April 8, 2016. The medical advances are truly amazing. Both momma & baby are recovering from the surgery, but only time will tell on the results of the surgery for baby Macee, and there is still a chance that Teri will go into preterm labor.
With all of this, medical expenses & living expenses are adding up very quickly, which is why this page is created. We need many prayers for Macee, Teri, Collin, CW & Breanna, but donations will truly help ease this family during this trying time.
