October 31st my mom,Lori, walked into the emergency room because she was suffering with intense pain in her back and having hallucinations. We would have never imagined that she wasnt going to walk out. Shortly after being admitted into the hospital she lost feeling in her feet and ankles and as the days went by she completely lost any sensation or ability to move, all the way up to her rib cage.
Through an MRI on her back they discovered a severe fracture on her t6. So severe that it was causing a very dangerous amount of compression on her spinal cord. They rushed her into surgery but unfortunately relieving the compression wasnt enough to heal the damage and we were told that she will be living with paraplegia permanently. The MRI on her back revealed cancer in her lung and the surgery on her spine resulted in the findings of the cancer in that area as well.
My mom has gone through so much in the past 6 weeks and its incomprehensible right now to know that this is just the beginning. These shutdowns and visitation restrictions have only made this more heart wrenching because so much of our family, my brother especially, has been kept away from her during the time we need to be together the most.
She is currently still in the hospital but will be released in the next few days. We have decided that the best option for her right now is to move in with me. She is going to need round the clock care and I am going to do my very best to take on as much as I can but I am a mom of 6 and I know I am going to need alot of help . There is quite a bit of medical equipment and other things she will need that insurance will not help with such as a hoyer lift to safely get her from her bed to her wheel chair and I am on the hunt for an affordable wheelchair accessible van.
My mom is a warrior and even though she is in so much pain everyday, she is hanging on to her faith and her hope that everything is going to be ok.
Your donation will be going towards making sure Lori is as comfortable as possible.
It will go towards making sure I can get her to every doctor appointment. It will be helping me provide the very best diet and treatments for her as I can.
It will ensure that I can keep up with all of her needs without making her feel like she is a burden.
It will let her know people do care and are fighting for her just as hard as we want her to fight for herself.
