Chris Lopez's battle to beat cancer:
It is with mixed emotions of sadness, contemplation and overwhelming hope that I am writing about our friend Chris today. He is in the prime of his life and engaged in a fight for that very same life. Chris is a very proud man and it took some cajoling to get him to allow us to spread the word about his condition and to ask our “village” for whatever help and assistance they can offer.
Just prior to Christmas this year, Chris was diagnosed with a metastasized-liposarcoma. This is an exceedingly rare type of cancer and this particular one proved very aggressive. He has endured multiple surgeries to remove what they could of the tumor, and has many months, possibly years of cancer treatments and physical therapy ahead of him, before he can return to a normal life.
That’s where we come in. We are currently working to get his insurance coverage squared and solid, but since he will be undergoing intense treatments and has lost the use of his arm (hoping for some recovery with PT), so he will be unable to return to work in the near future. He would love to continue his treatments at UCSF with his team and will need a hand with living and uncovered medical expenses.
The ask is, that you share what you can to make this incredibly difficult period as comfortable and stable as possible. The hard work of getting better and healing is in front of Chris, and those that know him, trust that he is up to this challenge. So please dig deep and join Chris on his journey to recovery and remission.
A bit about Chris for those that don’t know him. Chris is a bear of a man. He's big, warm-hearted and has a sensational belly laugh when you get him going. He is a dedicated, brother, son and uncle to his niece Sophie and nephew Graham, along with the growing group of "nieces" and "nephews" his many friends have bestowed upon him. He is an adoring father to his furbaby, Nala and loved Maggie, his OG pup like no other. An avid cyclist and camper, he loves nothing more than being in the woods, by a lake with a fishing pole in hand. His friendship is hard-won, but fierce and he is always there to lend a hand. So let’s join together and return the favor. We will post updates on Chris’ fight and even if you are unable to support Chris financially, please send some love and good thoughts his way.
