Baby Knox's Memorial Fund

Baby Knox suffered an anoxic brain injury two months after he was born in November, 2015. After spending nearly a month at Sunrise Children's Hospital, he was sent home with a prognosis of no recovery. He was not declared brain dead because when removed from life support he would breath on his own. Since December of 2015, Knox has begun breathing more on his own, exhibited increased movements of his head, arms and legs, and demonstrated the ability to respond to people talking to him (especially Mommy). Knox's family has been administering Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in the home. 

When cells in the brain die, either from trauma or lack of oxygen, plasma leaks out into surrounding tissue causing some swelling and usually reducing blood flow. These cells go dormant because they can't function without the appropriate amount of oxygen. HBOT increases the oxygen carried in the blood, making oxygen available to heal damaged capillary walls, preventing plasma leakage and reducing swelling. As the swelling decreases, blood flow can be restored to the dormant tissue (neovascularization) and these cells then have the potential to function again. Also, for TBI patients, some of the injured brain tissues may be "dormant" and non-functioning. HBOT can stimulate these "dormant" tissues and return them to more normal function.

Through the kindness of others, we have been provided an HBOT chamber for use in the home, that is what is considered a "hard" chamber, and can dive to greater depths and provide more oxygen as needed. There will be some significant cost to operate this machine, including the cost of medical grade oxygen to supply Knox while in the chamber. 

We are also saving to provide Knox another round of stem cell therapy, hopefully by March of 2017. We feel that God used the first treatments he received to provide marked improvements, including increased motion, increased breathing and increased bodily functions. We would like to provide Knox every opportunity to succeed and improve, and we feel that stem cell therapy has already demonstrably provided some improvement. The ability to provide him more such therapy would be a huge blessing. 

Lastly, there are the day to day needs that Knox requires, eye lubricant, diapers, wipes, mouth care supplies, supplements, etc...the things Knox needs that are relatively inexpensive on their own, but add up when taken all together.
