The team achieved monumental success in the first two rounds of the Tissot UCI Track World Cup, especially in their home World Cup of Manchester just two weeks ago. The team qualified 5th fastest in 4:00.448. They then took on Belgium in the rounds, beating them in 3:58.184 and riding the 2nd fastest time of the rounds, therefore gaining a spot in the Bronze medal ride off against European Champions, France. Team KGF pushed France hard, being 1.0 second ahead going in to the final kilometre where unfortunately it began to fall apart for the team, finishing 4th in 3:58.455. The unique and left-field race strategy of Team KGF leaves little room for error at the back end of the race, but the team felt motivated being so close to the podium.
Following our success at the first rounds of the World Cup we have made the decision to target the Team Pursuit and Individual Pursuit at the final round in Belarus in January, as well as chase individual targets and UCI ranking points at Switzerland and Portugal UCI Class 1 track events in December. We need to attend the Class 1 events in order to get the required amount of UCI points to allow the riders to attend the World Championships in Apeldoorn this February.
The team itself has a very small budget, which has been spent on UCI team registration (£4,000) and attending the first two World Cups in Poland and Manchester. The team have secured funding for the final World Cup round in Belarus, thanks to a kind donation, but are looking for support to enable them to attend Portugal and Switzerland UCI Class 1 events. To attend both of these events will cost £4,000. This is a combination of flights, transfers and accommodation. Any donation or assistance is of great help and will allow us to take on the best teams in this sport at the highest level!
