Bone Marrow Transplant for Dax

In November 2016, Dax Michael Schieffer was diagnosed with Dyskeratosis congenita (DKC), a rare genetic disorder causing bone marrow failure. Dax is scheduled for a bone marrow transplant at Seattle Children's Hospital in May.

Welcome to Team Dax. We are a group of friends from around Montana and beyond who have joined together to support a family that we love dearly.

The Schieffer family is expecting considerable expenses during this transplant period and the year that follows.

While in Seattle after the transplant, they will have to stay in isolation so little Dax is not exposed infections that could send his healing in reverse. They will rent a medically approved apartment near the medical facilities for three months.

Both Dax and Chantel are very fortunate with strong support from their employers and clients to continue their work remotely, but they will have additional travel from Seattle to Montana that will add to their expenses.

Upon return to Montana (hopefully in September) little Dax will not be able to attend school for one year while his immune system continues to rebuild. Home care, including educational services, will be accessed to help keep little man healthy and academically on track during his Kindergarten year.
