We are friends and co-workers of Daisy Rodriguez, and we are looking for a way to support her through her journey to healing. Daisy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in December 2010, and after surgery, she underwent chemotherapy. That was a grueling ordeal for her, but she was a model of grace under pressure. Daisy continued to come to work and to help students in the Cambridge public schools. Daisy finished chemo successfully in the spring of 2011. We all hoped that her worst was behind her.
In September 2014, Daisy's doctors saw something in her regular scan. She had to undergo surgery again this month. So many people have asked how they can help, and we set up this fund, with Daisy's permission, so that those who are moved to make a contribution to help her can do so. As you may know, there are many co-pays for visits and medication when you battle cancer, and it is difficult to keep your mind on healing if one is worried about expenses. We hope that gifts to this fund will allow Daisy some respite from worry so she can concentrate on getting better.
By the way, Daisy has worked for many years for a non-profit partner of the Cambridge public schools, Cambridge School Volunteers. Those of you who have seen her day in and day out at school may have thought that she worked for the schools and had the same benefits offered to CPS employees. Regrettably, we do not have benefits such as disability insurance or life insurance that can give more security at times like this.
Donations of any amount are welcome - together, we can lift Daisy up! You don't have to give money to help. She also greatly appreciates it if people say a prayer for her if you are so inclined, or send positive thoughts. She is a person of faith, and whether or not you can give, please know that your prayers and positive thoughts mean the world right now.
