My name is Art Sims, and everyone affectionately calls me “Chat Daddy”. I am a proud member of Chicago media, and have built a solid reputation for engaging audiences through relevant and authentic dialogue. The popular Real Deal Relationship Chat, has helped develop and maintain positive, sustainable relationships for more than 26 years. My honesty, quick wit and genuine disposition, has made me one of Chicago’s most loved media talents. In 2009, I was recognized as a social dynamo by Monarch Magazine as one of Chicago’s movers and shakers in the media world, and was also inducted into the second edition of Who's Who in Black Chicago. I have appeared on: Windy City Live, ABC TV Chicago; You & Me This Morning, WCIU TV Chicago; and host a daily radio show, Real Talk, Real People with Chat Daddy, on WVON Radio Chicago. In addition, I have been featured in Ebony and Jet magazines. I have been a noted columnist for the Chicago Defender newspaper. On a morning in January 2010, I started my day like any other with meditation and prayer. Everything seemed fine except for a slight feeling of fatigue and weakness. I attributed the feeling to the onset of a cold or flu. I stopped at the pharmacy and purchased over-the-counter cold medicine to treat my symptoms. After a week’s time, when the symptoms persisted, I made a doctor’s appointment. The results of routine lab work changed my life forever. In March 2010, I was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML). CML is a cancer of the bone marrow and blood, and is one of four main types of leukemia. The first phase of treatment resulted in remission. My recurring symptoms are fevers, night sweats, numerous tooth extractions and excruciating bone and joint pains. In addition, my CML condition has compromised my immune system, which has resulted in a myriad of compounded health issues. I am in need of knee replacement and reconstructive oral surgery. Although I do have health insurance, the much needed surgeries are not covered because of the pre-existing condition clause with the insurance carrier. My work status as an independent contractor yields no additional health benefits. I need your help!
