Dear Friends,
Sometimes in life there comes a moment when all the petty joys and irritations of everyday life fall away, and a person’s perceptions narrow to an urgent pinpoint of focus.
It’s a moment when all the noise of a modern life is tuned out, and a person remembers how precious their loved ones are to them.
Noriko and Brad had one of those moments when their beautiful fifteen-year-old daughter AKANE was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on September 27, 2018. This cancer is the most common type among children and young adults. She was immediately hospitalized and has started undergoing chemotherapy treatments. She is currently undergoing a 29-day initial treatment phase, and it is anticipated treatments could continue for up to two to three years. Her parents Noriko and Brad have dropped everything to care for her. It's a difficult time both emotionally and financially, so I have put together this fund to help support AKANE with medical and support costs through the long road ahead towards recovery.

1/7/2020 Update: Akane’s cancer has proven resistant to standard treatments and her bone marrow transplant on 4/2/2019 did not prove durable, so her parents are now forced to consider alternative therapies, such as CAR-T immunotherapy. Even with insurance covering some of these costs, Brad and Noriko have taken time off from work and are looking at a much expanded assortment of expenses.
