Fundraiser for Lexi

Lexi is in a fight for her life, again. Her family needs our help. Please read below to learn more about this courageous girl and her fight against cancer.

Lexi recently turned 12 years old and is the proud owner of her new puppy, Paisley (a birthday wish granted). She makes friends everywhere she goes and has a contageous smile that brings joy to those around her. Lexi is a cancer survivor; but she is also so much more than that.

Lexi is a very athletic girl; she loves to play soccer, ride horses and recently tried volleyball for the first time and loved it. She was a member of our local pony club as well as a club soccer team. She has attended her current school, St. Louis de Montfort, since Kindergarten and is currently involved in the student government and school volleyball team.

Amid her busy sports and school schedule, Lexi loves to spend time with her family and friends. She is very close to her parents, Jon and Lisa, and her big brother Carter.  They enjoy spending time together watching movies, playing soccer, and playing ping pong on their newly accquired table. Lexi is extremely proud of her dad, who is a California Highway Patrol officer. She glows everytime she sees him in uniform.

She is a amazing girl, with a heart of gold and the strength and courage of a lion. She has already beat cancer once, and now we are creating this page to support her as she battles this beast again.

Lexi has handled her cancer diagnosis with grace and spunk. She was first diagnosed in June 2014 and had surgery to remove her tumor (located in the muscle of her left thigh). Knowing she may never be able to play sports the way she once did, Lexi took everything in stride and fought hard to beat cancer. She endured several months of chemotherapy and radiation to rid her body of the cancer cells. In May of 2015, Lexi's scans showed the cancer was gone.

Following her treatments, Lexi was chosen by St. Joseph High School to be granted a wish from the Make a Wish Foundation. She attended the Women's World Cup in Canada this summer with her parents and brother. She was also able to meet all of the US Womens Soccer team! She was also invited to go on a Make a Wish trip with her friend Faith, whom she had met in the oncology ward of the hospital they were both being treated at. They spent a wonderful week full of great memories in Hawaii.

In August 2015, her routine scans showed that the cancer had returned. It was now in her lungs. Lexi put on a brave face and is determined to beat cancer again. She has recently been put on oral chemotherapy medications to fight the tumors- which seemed to be successful. However, on October 30, Lexi had to be airlifted from our local hospital to UCLA Childrens Hospital to be treated by a pediatric cardiologist. It was determined that her first rounds of chemotherapy in 2014/early 2015 had damaged her heart, doctors still are unsure if the damage is permanent or not. Lexi currently cannot continue her chemo regimin because doctors fear it will damage her heart further.

Although Lexi has had much support along the way, she has also made a huge difference in the cancer community and raised awareness for cancer. She helped raise $18,000 for childhood cancer research at the first "Bald for Lexi" St. Baldricks head shaving event. She has spoken at our local Cruising for Life event, and has spoken in honor of two Resolutions from the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors for September being acknowledged as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Santa Barbara County. She will also be honored at the American Cancer Society Riviera Ball in a couple of weeks.

We are setting up this page in hopes of supporting the Brown family with the difficult task at hand. They have a daughter and a son to worry about, and are currently both off of work to spend time nearly 150 miles from home in a hospital with their daughter. The funds from this fundraiser will go directly to the Brown family to help pay for medical and travel expenses they incur while Lexi battles cancer for the second time and a serious heart condition. Anything you can offer will help, thank you for reading Lexi's story, she is an amazing young woman who has inspired many.
