Mason's Brain Matters! #TEAM2MAS

Donation protected
For quite some time, my older brother Mason had been experiencing random headaches, back pain, and leg twitching. It was almost a year that he was still playing volleyball and softball that his symptoms started to get worse and more frequent; however he continued to think it was nothing more than the average sports and "getting old" type of injury.

While travelling solo through Japan for a couple of weeks, Mason was awakened from what he thought was a dream. He didn’t think anything of it. Without knowing exactly what was going on, Mason actually experienced his first seizure.

On October 24, 2016, a few days after returning from Japan and just weeks after his 30th birthday, his life took a turn—he had a seizure again, but luckily this time he was with a friend.

After being admitted to Torrance Memorial hospital in California and numerous medical tests, the doctors found a 1x1 inch tumor located on the left side of his brain. This tumor was the reason for his headaches, involuntary leg twitching, and ultimately his seizures.

After careful research and discussion, we found great help with Dr. Ray Chu and the neurosurgical team at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles to perform the operation. On November 8, 2016, Mason went in for his FIRST and BIGGEST surgery of his life. His brain surgery went well; however, a small portion of the tumor in the motor region of the brain affecting his leg remains, as it was too dangerous to touch.

On November 17, 2016, Mason was diagnosed with a Grade II Glioma (Diffuse Fibrillary Astrocytoma)—a form of brain cancer. He continues to take twice daily anti-seizure medication and needs to report back for follow-up MRI scans and neurological check ups with his surgeon and oncologist every 3 months to make sure the tumor isn’t growing or spreading.

Mason’s faith, patience, and courage has given himself and those around him the strength to know that everything will be okay. The mantra throughout Mason’s journey has been and will continue to be “God’s Got This”.

Any donations made will help offset the tremendous medical expenses Mason has incurred through hospitalization, surgery, treatment, and future brain scans.

We are overwhelmingly thankful, grateful, and blessed for all the love, prayers, and support from everyone!
