Van Slagle (AKA VanMan, Mr. Fix-It, Mr. Figure-It-Out), is the man, the myth, and the legend.
A husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, friend, coworker, and someone you can rely on - he is the one most GO TO for help.
But its right now that HE needs the help, and we are calling on all the people he has touched - to support him, Jenny, and Jerry in this time!
In December 2021, Van's Non-Hodkins Lymphoma (follicular type-B) cancer started to return. From January, until recently - he's been in and out of the hospital, and in chemo treatment and radiation to address the slow growing cancer.
But now, it is changing into diffuse lymphoma.. or the aggressive form of it.
On Saturday. August 6, 2022 - Van was admitted to KU Med Center with paralysis from the mid-chest down, and was rushed into emergency surgery to remove tumors discovered on his spinal cord between T3-T5. They were able to remove as much as they could.
The team of oncologists, hematologists, neurology, radialogy, OT/PT, are all working fervently to get him a baseline, and recommend and new plan of action against the new transforming cancer that seems to be attacking his spinal column pretty hard.
Here's the thing - Van's paid medical leave is about to run out. He has about two weeks left, and then about two weeks of paid personal/vacation time he can use. His hope was that the chemo treatments were in the home stretch (he had two left, scheduled.) But with these new issues presenting, and now with rehabilitation from his paralysis (and recovering from spinal surgery!), and a need for a completely new cancer treatment -- This leaves him in need of help.
Van has met his Out of Pocket for the year - that is about $7,000. They are still paying those bills off, but once those are taken care of, they will also need help with normal household expenses in the event he cannot take any more PAID time off of work.
Your support and contributions, will go directly to Van and Jenny for their medical bills and household income (in the event he stops getting paid for a time).
We are all hopeful, and trust in God's plan throughout all of this. These are frightening situations, BUT - God, has woven in all these small miracles, happenstances, and perfect moments inbetween. We have hope that though dad's body is failing him, that the Lord restores!
