Communities are made up of many special people -- but sometimes there is one particular character, a force of nature, who becomes the heart of a community. For generations of students and parents at Notre Dame des Victoires, that person has been Dimitrios Tsokas. He has dedicated nearly 40 years of service as a PE teacher/athletic director, CYO referee, generous civic volunteer and all-around friend (all the while working endless unpaid overtime hours and making a fraction of what we all know he's worth to a society that undervalues educators). Now he is battling an unrelenting cancer that has taken such a huge psychic, physical and financial toll on the Tsokas family. Can you help? Even the tiniest contribution will signal love and bring relief to a man who needs and deserves our ongoing support. NDV graduates may have migrated far and wide, but we all share a common tie back to happy grade school days. Recall Tsokas out there calling games, a riot of motion on the basketball court. Or his dramatic flair for flagging traffic on Pine Street. How about all those years of cheering (or goading) kids on to one more Jogathon lap? His wisecracks and irreverence and abiding huge love for our community made NDV different from any other school in town. He did that day after day for all of us, and now we can dig deep.
