Hi! My name is Chasity Clayton. Since I was young, I have had a soft spot in my heart for abandoned, neglected, and homeless animals. In February of 2026, as I was driving down a two-way country road for work, I spotted something along the side of the road and realized it was a dog. It was rainy outside, he had on no collar or tags, and he was injured. He could not use one of his back legs at all.

There was no way I was leaving him. So, I took the dog in and tried everything to see if he already had an owner. I took him to the vet I use for my own dog to see if he was microchipped and to get the injury looked at. It turns out, his femur is completely broken in two.

You would never know it was that bad because he is only 6 months old, a happy pup, and a complete trooper. But in reality, he is in a lot of pain. The vet presented two options: Surgery or amputation - both of which are very expensive. (Leaving it to heal or trying to splint it is absolutely not an option.) I am trying to look for a rescue or organization to partner with, but it is going to take a village.

There was no way I could leave this pup on the side of the road then, and I can't leave him now. My husband and I want to help him get the best care possible with whichever of the two options is best for him. We have named him "Trooper" or "Troop" for short. The vet didn't know it then, but she called the name. It seems to fit him perfectly.
