With your support, our goal is to make the opportunity to compete available to all girls in our program. It costs an average of $60 per girl, per team. With your support, we will provide team sports for 50 Kindergarten - 8th graders.
As a Girls Inc. program, we have unmatched support from a legendary national organization. Our community has been so generous we couldn't have hoped for more. Now we want to take our program to the next level. We offer basketball, softball, soccer and track programs for girls ranging in age from kindergarten all the way to eighth grade. For many of these girls, this is the best way to for them to acquire critical life skills that carry well into adulthood , and we're proud to see them succeed.
This year our youngest girls will start softball, which means new uniforms, and we are inviting more girls to join the track team which means more sneakers and shirts. We also provide a nutritious snack at each practice. With your support, we can pay participation fees for the team (we pay per girl), purchase the uniforms/t-shirts, provide nutritious snacks, and buy quality sneakers for our participants.
Will you join us in supporting one or more girls? Even donating $5 will take us closer to providing team sports for local girls.
If we raise more than our intended goal, all extra money will go towards our Healthy Living programming where girls participate in program activities and experiences that provide them with the knowledge, skills and encouragement to develop and sustain a healthy lifestyle.
Why Team Sports?
Sports are an integral part of girls leading healthy lives and we recognize that girls have much to gain by early and sustained participation in sports.
Despite the rise and prominence of female athletes, too many girls still encounter obstacles that keep them from having full access to sports. In addition, research shows that girls are more likely to have less self-confidence and greater body-image dissatisfaction than boys, and so often view their performance and abilities more negatively, keeping them from participating in sports.
Girls Inc. is tackling these challenges by providing girls at an early age the opportunity to enjoy physical activity, sports, and be adventurous. Through sports, girls not only improve and increase their physical health, but they also develop courage, confidence, self-reliance, and other critical life skills that carry well into adulthood. In addition, we continue to advocate for policies that protect girls in schools.
