On May 30, 2018 my dear friend Rosi was diagnosed with Stage IV triple negative Breast Cancer following the birth of her daughter, Lia.
She has undergone 11 months of aggressive chemotherapy, targeted therapies, clinical trials and radiation in such a short time. For days at a time, she has had to leave her loving husband and sweet daughter to receive treatments at Dana Farber in Boston, MA.
Initial chemotherapy treatments have worked well in her liver, breast, and lymph nodes. However, she is now facing the challenge of fighting the cancer that has spread throughout her spine and hips. She will begin a new chemotherapy treatment this month and is currently receiving daily radiation doses for the second time.
Despite these challenges she has done her best to continue to lead her life as normal as possible. She does her best to work at her full time job between cancer treatments and caring for her now one year old daughter. Her family is her every drive to keep pushing forward with a smile. Her husband has had to take numerous days off from work in order to support caring for the family which has contributed to their financial hardship.
I am raising funds to help supplement the mounds of medical and travel expenses that her family has had to endure. This beautiful family has faced this diagnosis with strength, positivity and grace. If you took a glance at them in passing you would never know their challenges! After the birth of a child, a diagnosis of this magnitude is unimaginable. They have made an unmanageable situation manageable and for that reason, they inspire me.
Rosi’s mission from the start has been to fear less and to demonstrate to all that despite your circumstance’s life is beautiful, worth living, and if you set your mind on it – you can achieve it.
As I continue to give support and love to Rosi and her family, I am taking her strength and inspiration along with me on my third experiance through the 10 mile, Tough Mudder obstacle course. The past two years I built up physical and mental strength to accomplish a meaningful goal of mine. This year during my Tough Mudder challenge in Massachusetts, I will be participating with a dear friend, Tiana Alicea. Together we will push through each obstacle with teamwork, dedication and strength in honor of Rosi.
