Team River Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Four year old River was diagnosed with Type B leukemia on Sunday, October 8 after experiencing extreme pain in his back and tummy. To know River is to love him! River lights up any space he enters, his huge blue eyes noticing and drinking in everything around him. He misses nothing! He also never stops moving! You can tell from his pictures that River is a fun-loving, mischevious kid. He's always game for a water fight, acrobat stunts, racing his matchbox cars, and anything else that keeps him moving. If you ran the Top of Utah Marathon, you probably witnessed his antics or were even lucky enough to get a high five from him at the Mile 23 aid station. River loves to run, race, and support other athletes.

River had surgery yesterday to put in a port for the treatments that he will be getting for the next three years. He also had a bone marrow sample taken from his pelvis, as well as a lumbar poke. Although the surgery took longer than expected, the little trooper did great. He started chemotherapy last night.

River's parents have already made two $600 copayments, just to get him diagnosed. He will be at Primary Children's Hospital for at least four days during this first stay. Then he will need to visit once a week for chemotherapy treatments for the next few months, and then less often as time goes on. Although this type of leukemia has a 95% cure rate, River's treatment will last at least three years. This will put a huge financial burden on River's devoted parents, who already work so hard to provide for him and his three brothers, Carter, Ethan, and Wyatt. They are also involved members of the Cache Valley community and donate time and energy to supporting local organizations there.

This page is an attempt to help lighten the financial burden of River's treatment so that his parents are able to continue focusing on emotional care for him and his brothers, as well as taking care of themselves.

The initial goal amount of $10,000 will cover River's medical deductible and hopefully begin to help with expenses incurred traveling back and forth to Primary Children's from Cache Valley.
