I am ShaQuita Calloway a mother of three amazing boys, wife of a active duty sailor and an active duty sailor myself stationed in San Diego CA. My family and I have been through a lot in a year with my husband and I both being active duty my family has had to drop their lives to travel to help us. When I was diagnosed with cancer so was my family!
Here is our story:  June of 2016 I went into labor and had my twins at only 31 weeks. They spent two months in NICU. My mother took leave from work and flew out to be with us. I felt a small lump in September but was told since I was breast feeding that milk was backed up in a gland and nothing to worry about. In November I went to the ER for really bad stomach pains and had to have emergency surgery for pancreatitis and have my gallbladder removed. During my follow up from the surgery since my lump was growing I decided to have it looked at again my mammogram came back negative and I was told it was a cyst so I decided to go ahead and have it aspirated (draw fluid out with a needle). Well I ended up needing a Biopsy. I went back a week later with my 7yr old son who was on winter break for the results, well no worries there because my mammogram was already negative and my body had already been through enough. During this time we were also dealing with the illness of my mother in law. I had to go home and tell my husband that I had just been diagnosed with Stage 3 triple negative breast cancer (a very aggressive form of breast cancer). His mother passed the same night so we packed up our kids and traveled home to AL to arrange and attend her home going service. I started chemo in January for 6 months. Having two infants and a 1st grader at the time we needed as much help as we could get. My family and friends made sure someone was there for every treatment which meant a lot of traveling and plane tickets coast to coast. I had my double mastectomy on July 6th and my mom is back out here to help again. I have more surgeries ahead of me and I also have severe neuropathy and have to go to physical therapy. My brother and sister in law has dropped everything and moved here to help with myself and the kids also. With my husband being active duty it's hard for him to be here every moment. I am asking for donations for my family to go towards their traveling needs and expenses because we still have a long road ahead of us. Anything helps!
Love, Quita
