As many of you know, Dan and I have been looking to adopt for many years now. We were on the aoption list for four years when we got matched with a family. As you can imagine we were overjoyed when it finally happened! We were so excited to meet the little one and take her home. However, not even two weeks after having her home, the birth family changed their minds and took her back. We were absolutely devastated. We were literally the worse case scenario, a failed adoption. Now we are at the point of "what do we do next?"
We have decided that waiting another four years to be matched with a familiy is not something we are willing to do. Because of this we are looking at working with different, national adoption agencies. These agencies place babies with families typically within a year (wow!). The problem is that these agencies also cost DOUBLE or MORE than what we have been expecting. We had been expecting the adoption to cost about $15,000. However, with looking at a national adoption, the agency fees involved, travel that will be required as well as time off of work, we are expecting this adoption to cost closer to $30,000. It's also required to be paid all at once (ouch!). That is a very daunting number for us, but we don't want to give up. We are currently looking into grants and other ways to raise the money, however we were hoping that our friends and family may also be willing to contribute. Any funds that we gain will be used for the adoption of a child. It will either go for agency fees, legal fees or costs we incur from traveling.
Asking for help is something that is so hard for us to do. However, we just can't wait another four years, we need to get in with a better adoption agency. We hope you will help us do so! Dan and I are so grateful for any help you can give. We are so excited to be parents and with making a change, we believe we can make it happen. We love you all!
