Team Kristine: Neurosarcoidosis

March 7, 2018 Update:
Kristine and Darrell will be flying back to Cleveland on Friday, March 16. She is scheduled for testing on the 19th and surgery on the 20th. The exact surgery won’t be decided until her urologist sees the test results. Her new surgeon who works with challenging cases may also ask her previous GI surgeon to assist her. They expect from the testing and examinations from her last visit that her bladder and small intestine have fused together in one or more places and there is need for a total reconstruction. That is her specialty and she only takes cases other physicians will not attempt. Darrell and Kristine feel fortunate she was referred to her practice. Kristine is also still having issues with her Hickman catheter which will hopefully be addressed during this visit as well. The length of their stay isn’t known yet, but Kristine hopes to return home as soon as possible after the surgery, even if it means an interim stay in a local care facility during her recuperation. We will update you after the surgery. Please continue to keep them in your prayers as always.

This GoFundMe page was organized for Kristine and Darrell Tossie to help them continue fighting for her life against Neurosarcoidosis. Kristine was diagnosed with a chronic, progressive, multi-system form of the disease in 2013,  though she experienced symptoms for several years before then. There currently is no cure for Neurosarcoidosis.
Many organs in her body have since been affected, including her kidneys, lungs, GI system, and central nervous system. She has been to the Cleveland Clinic many times, as well as several other hospitals around the country, in the past four years. As you can imagine, the cost for surgical procedures, traveling to and from hospitals, skilled healthcare, and hospital stays has been quite expensive even with insurance.

Before Kristine was forced into early retirement because of her symptoms, she taught computer education courses at the Hutchinson Public Library in Hutchinson, Kansas. She also owned and operated a technology consulting business which helped people in the Hutch area learn computer operating skills, and how to protect themselves from identity theft, viruses, etc.  Kristine's husband, Darrell, is a Community Police Officer striving to develop a positive relationship between the Hutch police department and the community. Both Darrell and Kristine have been active members in the Hutch community and have always been willing to lend a hand when needed. Now it's our turn to help them.

We had a very successful Fighting Neurosarcoidosis: Team Kristine fundraiser on Tuesday, November 28, 2017,  at the Sand Hills Event Center in Hutchinson, KS, but the need continues.
