Enough to Start…But Not Enough to Finish

Kole Joshua Jackson is an Overcomer.  He has battled long and hard for 7 years to come back from an accident that caused a myriad of health issues.  The battle has been his whole life since he was 10 years old on a youth football field at an evening practice where he received two concussions minutes apart.  Those few minutes changed his life.  Sadly, he lost his youth and adolescence in that short amount of time.

His body underwent multiple health issues that spiraled downward.  They included the Traumatic Brain Injury, Head Injury Induced Encephalitis, P.A.N.D.A.S. (Pediatric Autoimmune Neurological Disorder Associated with Strep), Post Traumatic Vision Disorder, Injured vertebrae in his neck at the brain stem, Fibromyalgia, Severe Chronic Pain Syndrome…to name a few.

A typical day for Kole begins with a level 7-8 pain in his body and head.  He hasn’t had a day without a headache in 7 years.  He wakes up stiff and in pain.  He faces it head on and goes to the Anytime Fitness gym to do stretching, movement type exercises and plays basketball in our backyard.  Moving is painful, but it loosens things up.  The pain creates nausea that directly affects what he can eat.  The day is spent trying to distract himself enough to get through the pain.  The pain fluctuates from a 7 – 10 on a scale of 1-10.  When it is in the range of 8-9, it becomes agony. He often says it feels like there is a fire burning in his muscles and on his skin.  He finds it painful to be touched while yearning for a hug in the midst of the pain.  Suffering is hard to watch.  Still, he does his best to overcome it.

Today, he feels like one of the American Gladiators.  He has jumped over obstacles, worked around them, dodged them, but has now come to a screeching halt…looking at a financial mountain that can only be started but not finished without you…one of his last big hurdles.

His quality of life is not good because he finds himself in excruciating “nerve pain”.  While specialists from around the country have successfully worked with him in their field of expertise, nothing seems to alleviate the body/head pain.  He is now on both anxiety medication as well as antidepressants.  He is caught trying to hang on for all he’s got to live each day because he has come this far.  But we all recognize that it is nearly impossible to live with burning nerve pain day after day.

Kole was just accepted as a patient at the Spero Clinic which is a medical treatment center in Arkansas that specializes in resetting the Central Nervous System and the brain.  We recently heard about their 12 week treatment program.  It is quite expensive, but they have a high success rate. It typically costs approximately $3,000 per week for 12 weeks resulting in the $36,000 goal for him.  This is the only such facility in the world, and they have had patients from over 40 countries.

Kole is our grandson.  We have dedicated every day to doing the best we can to help Kole survive this unbelievable situation.  We work three jobs between us and are now using the last of grandpa’s retirement fund to get Kole into this facility.  We desperately need financial help to give him this chance at life to complete the 3-month program. We can get him started, but we don’t have the means to finish.  These next steps require a walk of faith.

Our family has walked closely with the Lord to make this journey.  There has been a prayer team in place for the 7 years of struggle.  Kole’s faith alone inspires all of us.  We are asking for your prayers as well as your financial support to make this goal a reality.

No matter how small, it will help.  We know that we have come to the end of our ability to financially help him recover his life.  During the 7 years, we have always had to pay out of pocket for his expenses, and this time is no different.  It is just that this last hurdle for the Gladiator looms ahead.  But, David faced Goliath, and we all know who won…with God all things are possible, and we are believing for the Victory that has been already won!

P.S. These pictures show Kole going through some of the painful moments, but still waiting and hoping for healing.
