Team Kirsten Hope Fund

Donation protected
Our goal is to raise $8,000 to support Kirsten regaining mobility after her devasting illness and recovery.   She is a brave and graceful warrior, and a forever athlete.  As her husband Dan says, "I want her to be as proud of her chair as she used to be about her bike back when she could kick ass in cycyling."
Our fundraising efforts will help pay for upgrades that will be added once Kirsten's chair arrives.

-Smart Drive: Adds power to the chair, giving Kirsten added mobility and reducing the possibility of injury. (cost: $6000)
-GoFreeWheel: Allows the chair to roll over soft and uneven ground. (cost: $600)
-Higher quality wheels and hand rims (cost: $1500)

Kirsten has rebounded from an onslaught of infections and complications to establish a striking recovery over the past 4 months. Matching her doctor’s predictions, a much-reduced Prednisone dose while keeping GVHD symptoms at bay has resulted in significant physical gains. She’s able to do more upper body weight workouts, has had longer and longer intervals in the standing frame, and heads to the nearby Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAM) 3-4 times per week (thanks to John and Julie Benton who gave her a pass) to get some wheelchair workouts up and down the aisles.

For the past 16 months she’s been in a code K4 starter chair that wasn’t intended for the long term. It’s heavy and configured poorly. Her feet stick out in front making it difficult to maneuver close to things. The center of gravity is forward, putting a lot of weight on the front wheels making it hard to turn or spin.
With the help of a chairfitter from the NuMotion Company Dan and Kristen have been shopping for an upgrade. The Aero Z is a lightweight chair that will be custom fit and so much easier for Kirsten to maneuver. The good news is that insurance covers the cost of this chair.
