Team Jen Medical Fund

In March 2015, my friend Jen Collins was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. After undergoing chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, Jen has spent the last two years regaining her health and strength while pursuing her dreams and helping to support other cancer survivors. She had just been admitted into PCC's Certified Medical Assistant program and celebrated meeting her bone marrow donor in August when she received the devastating news that the cancer was back.

Jen and her partner Kirti had less than 24 hours to spend together with their dog Buttercup while packing up for a month at the hospital. Jen's treatment has consisted of 13 rounds of chemo for the first month. She'll then have a weeklong break before she receives another 13 rounds of chemo. On the 14th day, doctors will give her white blood cells from her bone marrow donor in hopes of getting her blood counts up so that she'll go into remission. Medical bills are quickly mounting. Jen faces a minimum $10,000 co-pay for treatment, and her insurance doesn't cover all of the drugs she'll be placed on. Because of her cancer, Jen is unable to work. Paying for these bills on top of dealing with cancer is a major stressor for Jen and Kirti.
