Team Gilmer takes on Omphalocele

The Gilmer family is about to grow from a family of 3 to a family of 5! Steven, Deanna, and Jacqueline are all eager to meet twin boys, Theodore James and Charles David.
Unfortunately, Charles has some medical challenges, which will require specialized care. Charles was diagnosed with an Omphalocele. An Omphalocele is an abdominal wall birth defect that results in one, some, or all abdominal organs developing outside of the body. The exact size of Charles's Omphalocele is unknown, but it is believed to be relatively large and impacts his liver. As a result, Steven and Deanna will have to travel to Augusta in order to deliver at a hospital with a pediatric surgeon on staff. Charles will need an estimated 2-3 surgeries and will require an extended stay in the NICU, which could be as long as 4 months. Further, Deanna will need to stay in Augusta for about 3 weeks prior to her tentatively scheduled c-section on July 22.
In addition to their regular expenses and the expected expenses that come with newborns, the Gilmer's will also have to contend with unexpected expenses related to travel, lodging and food while in Augusta, as well as the gigantic medical bills to come. Deanna's position as a Nurse Practitioner does not provide maternity leave. She has only 2.5 weeks of paid leave time available, but will be out of work for a minimum of 8 or 9 weeks. The Gilmer's are in for an uphill battle emotionally, physically, and financially.
You know the old saying, "it takes a village to raise a child." Well, the Gilmers need their village! The goal is to raise enough money to ease the financial burden on the Gilmers.
