Team Deyzha!

In March 2013, 12 year old Deyzha was diagnosed with Germinoma and rushed into emergency surgery to remove the brain tumor two days later.  This vibrant, fun loving child, who enjoys competition cheerleading, basketball and dancing at Warrior games with the Warrior Dance Clinic during half time, was now facing a long recovery from brain cancer.   After three rounds of chemotherapy, blood (platelets) transfusions and 30 days of radiation treatment, Deyzha was able to rest and recuperate. In time, Deyzha was able to regain a normal lifestyle, returning to some of the activities she previously enjoyed including the Warrior Dance Clinic and playing basketball.  She loves to collect culinary school brochures and dreams of becoming a pastry chef.

Approximately a year ago, Deyzha started losing mobility on her left side and developed weekly seizures.  Three months prior to her high school graduation, her mobility deteriorated so badly that she had to start using a wheelchair to get around, causing her to have to transition into independent study to finish her senior year.  Not daunted by this, Deyzha was able to enjoy her Senior Prom and even walked the stage (with help from the school nurse) to receive her high school diploma and graduate with her class. Recently, her doctors at Children’s Hospital in Oakland performed an extensive MRI followed by other tests to find that she has a new mass in her brain and possible reoccurrence of the cancer or delayed radiation necrosis.  Either of these outcomes will require additional surgery, chemotherapy or both.

Her prognosis is unknown; however, even after treatment, her mobility and cognitive function is not expected to return.

As you can imagine, this has been extremely difficult on Deyzha and her family.  Her mother, Crystal, has been by her side every step of the way and has done a marvelous job balancing her responsibilities at work and being a mom to three wonderful children.  However, this newest development has caused quite a financial strain due to Crystal needing to be away from work.  The family is thankful for all the thoughts and prayers that have gone out for Deyzha over the years and have gained encouragement and strength from the support of those who love them.  We are asking you to consider donating to help ease the strain and financial hardship this is causing the family.

Thank you!
