Team 592

I'm Heather Shaw, Amy's BFF, I live in High Point, NC and I want to do all that I can do to love and support Amy and Paul in New Bern, NC. They have touched so many people's lives in a positive way....coaching decades of all-stars, taking cheerleaders on trips of a lifetime for competition/seeking colleges, visiting friends and family in times of needs, raising monies for animal shelters in Craven County through her Fur Ball..... No matter where Amy goes she lights up a room and is automatically in charge in a quiet and gentle way....but not with Florence.  So I'm calling all people, friends, judges, coaches, cheerleaders (present and past), family members of Amy and Paul Tyler....it is time to come together to help two people that have always been there for us in a time of need physically, mentally or financially!

Amy and Paul are still feeling the effects of Florence and will continue to be pounded with rain until Tuesday. They have been without power since Wednesday. They use a generator twice a day to make tea and toast. Most of us have been fortunate with the lose of power for a couple of hours ....maybe a day. They have had no power now for five days, taken only one shower (in a someone else's house), and have no bed to sleep on or furniture to sit on. I know, I personally, have been very lucky in this storm and not had to "rough it" or makes sacrifices like they have.

While they did have time to prepare for the hurricane by lifting items off the floor, taking items to the second floor, etc. They had to do this at their house, Nora's house (Paul's mother's house) and Amy's business downtown. They were exhausted before the storm even hit. Those of you that know Paul, know that he doesn't "sit well" and has already begun to cut carpet, sub-floor, drywall, etc. trying to assess the damage. All of this energy is being fed by bread, butter and cheese sandwiches with tea (of course...he's English ;-)

Many of you have reached out via phone, email, and social media to check on Amy and Paul and the resounding question has been......Are Amy and Paul ok? And, what can we do to help? Some of you are close by....some of you are hundreds of miles away but still want to help and support Amy and Paul.

I'm setting up this page to raise monies to get things started for Amy and Paul. I've been on the phone most of the morning with Amy trying to figure out what are their immediate needs and what are long-term needs:

Immediate Needs:
*Monday (Sept. 17th) she needs a storage truck/container to unload her business downtown so that she can push the water, mud and debris out of the building, disinfect the floors and walls, determine what needs to be thrown away while her dog food stays dry and her merchandise is secure.
*She needs hands on deck to move the items above. There are heavy bags of dog food, display cases, etc. that will go faster if she has help.
*Monies to purchase food, gas (for car and generator), and possibly temporary shelter (hot shower). Also, to start the rebuilding process.
*Love & Support & Pray: If you know of someone near New Bern that can help in the next two days, give them a call and send them to Amy and Paul.

Long-Term Needs:
*Due to over 20 inches of water inside of Nora's house (Amy and Paul's primary house), they are unable to move back in due to mold and mildew that has already developed.  Their house, which is under renovation, has no bath tubs, showers, furniture....it is empty. Therefore, they need a place to lay their heads down to recharge their battery each day, a hot shower for sore muscles and a way to store and prepare food. However, they need to stay nearby to work on their properties and businesses. My thoughts were to see if anyone had an RV not in use right now that could support the needs above and they could park it at their house. If you have a better offer....then bring it on! All offers are considered!
*Monies to re-establish Amy's business downtown, fix Nora's house and fix Amy and Paul's house.
*Love & Support & Pray: share this site as many times as possible so that we can supporting them in the long-term.
