Hello my name is Luke van Heukelum, recently I went to the hospital for 4 days because there was a good chance that I had cancer. In fact, a 99% chance. But I am one of the luckiest people to say that I beat the odds and found out that I did not have cancer. However that period of time in the hospital, 81 hours to be exact, there was a lot of uncertainty and testing that I had to go through to get my diagnosis. It was very hard and very boring.
Something what really helped me was playing games on my portable Xbox with my headset and microphone, so I could talk to my friends and forget that I was in the hospital all together. Many of the other kids in the hospital have cancer and have to stay a lot longer than me, and they don’t have anything to help them stay connected with their friends.
To help these kids, my family and I are starting a fundraiser to donate portable Xbox’s with headsets, microphones and games to the patients of the Oncology department of Children's Hospital in Chicago. This will allow patients that stay there to play games, connect with their friends & family and distract from their treatments and time in the hospital. It helped me and I am sure it will help them too.
Our goal is to raise enough money for 5 portable Xbox kits that we hope to donate during Christmas 2018. You can help by donating through this gofundme-page. 100% of donations will be used to purchase Xbox kits.
UPDATE ON SOCCER TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER
On Wednesday November 21st we are having a 5v5 indoor soccer tournament fundraiser. The tournament will be held at the Team Elmhurst Indoor Facility @ 699 Walnut Street in Elmhurst. There will be three brackets of 4 teams each. Please contact us through this page if you are interested in any additional information. All donations for the tournament will be used to purchase Xbox kits for the Oncology department of Children's hospital in Chicago
