Teaching Cancer a Lesson by Kellie

Donation protected
Kellie Ryan is a 26 year old kindergarten teacher who at the start of 2018 had seen a number of life changes.  She moved in to her first apartment, had a new car, and adopted a rescue dog.  She loved her job, her kindergarten kids, and life in general was going very well for her.  Sadly, things quickly changed.

On January 15, a routine blood test had anything but routine results.  She was awakened by a 2:00 AM phone call from her doctor saying she was critically anemic and missing half of her body's blood.  A trip to the ER resulted in a prescription, which caused severe abdominal distention and pain.  Another ER trip resulted in another prescription that accomplished nothing.  A return to the ER that same day caused Kellie to be admitted to the hospital, where she would remain for 12 days.  The last of numerous exams and tests determined Kellie's situation was caused by a large abdominal mass.  Emergency surgery was performed and lab testing determined she had Stage 4 colon cancer.

Several days later Kellie left the hospital and has had the first of what will be many chemotherapy treatments.  Her life is now anything but normal, and a far cry from where it was just a few weeks ago.  She and her family met with cancer experts from USC and UCLA who recommended specialized testing and more probable surgeries.  She was placed on disability, resulting in a substantial decrease in her paycheck.  Sadly she also had to return her dog to the rescue foundation as she was unable to physically care for him.

Kellie will undergo more chemo sessions, blood testing, exams, meetings with expert doctors, and additional surgeries.  She badly needs genetic testing to try and determine why a healthy 26 year old, with no family history of colon cancer, has been stricken with this disease.  Sadly, her insurance has denied coverage for that urgently needed test. Your donations will immediately be used to pay for this genetic test that could determine the best course of action to treat her cancer. This will hopefully help get her back into class with her kindergarten kids, who she misses so much.

Kellie is and will be facing expensive medical bills in addition to her rent, car payments, insurance and other expenses.  She has never been one to ask for help unless it's absolutely necessary.

Any and all money received in this Go Fund Me account will be used for the current, pending, and future expenses not covered so she may continue to lead a semi-normal life while trying to get the treatment and help she needs.  In keeping with her love for kids, Kellie has determined any and all unneeded funds will be donated to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, so others even younger than she will also get the help they need and deserve.

Kellie, her family, and friends thank you in advance for all of your support.
