Training Teachers in Kathmandu

I've been teaching for 15 years from Japan and the Czech Republic to New York and the Netherlands. Along the way I have worked with inspiring teachers who have shaped me through the years. Now it’s time to do my part. I and two of my colleagues will be leading a series of workshops (Aug. 9-13) for language teachers in Kathmandu over 3 days, followed by 2 days of teacher observations – all organized by the Nepal English Language Teacher’s Association (NELTA). These are all classroom teachers from the region, grades 7-10. The association has gathered what they consider are the best teachers for the workshops. Our hope is that the workshops will create a cascading effect, as the participating teachers will then carry the resources, approaches and techniques on to other teachers in the country. 

It's an opportunity to share knowledge and ideas in a place where teachers have few resources and even fewer chances for continued development. Help us make this a success! The teacher’s association has very little funds and has asked us do this project on a volunteer basis. So we are reaching out to our network for help. The money raised will go to teaching supplies, materials and travel costs. Any leftover money raised will be donated to NELTA.
