Teacher Training in Uganda

Donation protected
This summer I have the opportunity to participate in a teaching fellowship in Uganda with an organization called LRTT (Limited Resource Teacher Training).

As most of you know, I currently teach middle school ESL in the States. Since I was young it has always been a desire of mine to make a positive difference in kids' lives. Throughout college and my career, my goal and passion to empower students, families and teachers alike has only grown over the years.  Having worked with various nonprofits and schools I know firsthand that when education is not supported and/or valued, it is students who suffer most. A quality education can literally change the outcome of a child's life.
Research shows that having a quality teacher is one of the most, if not the most, important factors when it comes to student performance/success!

LRTT brings together teachers from different countries to work with other educators who have limited access to resources, including teacher training. It strives to create a sustainable approach in which local educators can learn new skills and lead other teachers, while at the same time provides unique and challenging professional development for volunteer teachers (me). During my trip I will conduct observations and lead workshops.

Why Kanungu district?
The area I will work in is a very rural area where class sizes are big,  the female dropout rate is high, and teachers receive little professional training.  In addition, 50% of people are age 16 or under and 70% of people receive no more than a primary education.

I believe this opportunity will fulfill my goal of improving the education and well-being of all kids.  Moreover, I will receive training in how to better lead professional development. Through shared best practices with teachers from the UK, U.S., Uganda and Australia, I hope to build more skills and confidence as a teacher, and I cannot wait to experience a culture and educational context completely different from my own.

The fellowship cost is $1500 for one month, which includes pre-departure training, housing, food, transportation, and conference costs. The cost does not include flight/ visa or vaccinations, and for this reason, I've set a goal of $2700. I hope that you will help make this a reality and that it will truly be a growing experience for all those involved!

Prayers are also appreciated and I thank you in advance for any and every contribution!
