To Teach a School to Fish

Donation protected
The Cambodian School Project began when  a Cambodian refugee (now President of our Board of Directors) returned to Cambodia in 1994.  Sarith Ou saw how impoverished the school system was: There were few schools, and these were poorly attended.  Illiterate and without job skills, farm children in particular faced a lifetime of poverty.

Not satisfied with the status quo, Sarith enlisted friends to help rural students. Since then, the Cambodian School Project has built 6 schools and funds improvements at each of them each year. Each student  is given school supplies and a school uniform each year.  Graduates with a long commute to high school are given bicycles. Attendance and graduation rates have grown by leaps and bounds!

Now we face a different problem: In recent years, population pressures  and development along the Mekong waterway has reduced the fish harvest. Fish are the major protein source in our rural school areas, and they are now fewer, smaller, and much more expensive.  Our poorest grade school students, already malnourished, have even less protein in their diet.

The Teach a School to Fish Project will make fish food and use this to grow fish to feed to our students in rural Cambodia.  Your donations will fund a fish food making machine and will fund small ponds at our schools to raise fish.

Your gift will bring a sustainable source of protein to growing children who need it to fuel their minds!

The Cambodian School Project has no overhead - we fund our own travel and fundraising expenses. We will work directly with teachers, village officials and parents to build these ponds and feed these fish.  We have a long history of working cooperatively with parents and teachers to build and improve our schools.  We are confident they will support and help with this project.  Working together, with contributions from donors like you, we will grow fish for our kids - and teach them to grow fish for themselves.

**This campaign effort is managed by board members and friends of the Cambodian School Project in Madison, WI. All funds raised, apart from service fees by GoFundMe, will be used for purchasing and maintaining equipment for the fish pond and fish food machine, to provide a sustainable source of protein for students.**
