Sarnies for Sam

So Sam needed to go back to hospital yesterday for a swift-ish check up and procedure. Absolutely nothing major to worry about. When it comes to newborns, the NHS mobilises at the speed of sound and all is absolutely fine and well. Sam's treatment was wonderfully fast, effective and compassionate.
While we were there, I found a 'Parents Room' where there is a kitchen and a fridge, oven, toaster etc with a wide collection of dried, quick meals available (noodles, pasta, baby food etc), all completely free of charge. It was the most heartwarming and most depressing room I've ever been in.
We were in and out of the ward in 4 hours and that was more than enough - imagine being in there every day, imagine the sheer, grinding, terror of having a poorly baby or kid and having to try and make a life for yourself inside the four walls of a hospital while these absolute legends get to work on your child. It is literally too much to think about and yesterday was a tiny glimpse into a reality I don't ever want to have to comprehend.
Anyhow, and this is the main point, I got speaking to the staff and - quite staggeringly - all the food and provisions put on for these parents is actually BOUGHT AND PAID FOR BY THE WARD STAFF THEMSELVES. Bearing in mind for a second the massively subsidised bars and restaurants in the House of Commons while at the same time, us, as taxpayers, don't pay for a single sachet of sugar, a single pint of milk or a single slice of bread for the toaster in that Parents Room.
You know when you sometimes hear something and it just doesn't ring true with what is just naturally right and proper?
Yeah that. Bigtime that. So I've set this up. Yep, there are a million and one amazing "big" causes out there, all worthy of a tenner.
But, sometimes, buying a scared mum and dad a brew and a sandwich is more than enough.
Every penny will go to help the ward staff that stock the Parents Room on ward 8A at Royal Preston Hospital. Pray to your God, in the nicest possible way, that you'll never have to use it.
