Update: With very heavy hearts we have been informed that Daniel has passed away this morning. He will be missed greatly. May we continue to show them out love and support.
Hi my name is Madison Howe and I am one of Brigitte’s best friends. She is from Lima, Peru and we became so close in Peru while serving missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and during that time I had the opportunity to get to know her and her family deeply. Over the years, I have grown to know each member of the Coca Family and have witnessed firsthand the incredible strength, love, and devotion of the entire family, especially as they have faced the ongoing cancer battle of Brigitte’s dad, Daniel. I have seen them broken and heartbroken at different times, yet always filled with hope and love for him.
Daniel is one of the kindest, strongest, and most faithful people I have ever known. His infectious fun personality has always been something I've admired. He has spent his life serving others, always ready to lend a hand, make someone laugh, or share his infectious smile that could warm anyone’s heart. His love, joy, and faith have been a guiding light for his family and everyone who knows him.
For the past three years, Daniel has been bravely fighting bone marrow cancer. Brigitte and her family have done everything possible to give him the best quality of life, but cancer is both emotionally and financially overwhelming.
Just a few days ago, after a routine check-up, Daniel’s condition suddenly worsened. He was admitted to the hospital with kidney failure and is now in the ICU, connected to a mechanical respirator. Doctors have told them that his body is extremely tired, and while the family continues to hope and pray, the road ahead is very uncertain. Seeing him like this has been heartbreaking for Brigitte and her family.
As Brigitte’s best friend, I know how difficult it is for them to ask for help. They have never done anything like this before, and I know sharing their situation publicly is extremely hard for them. We believe the best way to help is by creating this fundraiser to give them support during this critical time.
The funds raised will primarily go toward medical expenses, which are the most urgent right now. Additionally, the family is preparing for what the doctors have indicated could happen in the coming days, including end-of-life and burial-related costs. Most importantly, they want to ensure Brigitte’s mom, who has been Daniel’s closest companion, best friend, and the love of his life, has the support she will need during this devastating time. She has devoted herself to him, and now they want to make sure she is safe, cared for, and surrounded by loved ones after 37 years of sharing life together.
No donation is too small. Any contribution will help this family provide the care, support, and love that Daniel deserves during this critical time. Even sharing this fundraiser or keeping them in your thoughts and prayers is a tremendous gift.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generosity, kindness, and prayers.
