Hi, my name is Kimberly and I am the owner of a 10-year-old Bloodhound/Black Lab named Apollo. About a year ago, he hurt his back left paw pad, so we took him to the vet, and they gave him some medicine. That seemed to work, but 6 or 7 months later, we had to take him to the vet again for the same paw pad. They gave him some medicine again, and it went away, or so we thought. We have had to take him to the vet 3 more times for the same thing. This time, the vet gave him medicine but said he needs surgery to remove the growth. That was about 6 weeks ago. Well, he hasn't had any antibiotics for about 4 weeks, and he has learned how to take his cone off since he has had to wear it for the last year. I came home from work, and he had blood everywhere from messing with it. It's really bad now; his paw is smelling up the house. He can't put it on the floor; he just holds it up. He can't play or do anything; he just lays in his bed because it hurts him so bad. The vet keeps letting us get the pain medicine for him so he can be a little comfortable and not suffer so much. I figured out a way so he can't get his cone off, and now I have to tie it to his harness, so all day, every day, he has to wear this. It's so sad. I have been reaching out to vets, rescues, and services for the last 2 weeks to see if they will take payments or can help us with the surgery, but no luck. Everyone just tells me to call someone else, and I do, but no one will take payments, and no pet insurance company will help with pre-existing conditions. That was really depressing, so I could not think of another way to get the money. I just thought that I am going to have to watch my baby die from the infection or from him stressing out and having a heart attack. That is the worst feeling in the world, knowing he is suffering because I can't raise the money for his surgery. I pretty much gave up hope until today when I was at work. A guy who works in the store told me about GoFundMe. When he told me, I said my credit's not good enough for a loan, and he started telling me about this GoFundMe. I felt hope again, thinking there might be a chance that some people might help me raise this money. So I got home as soon as I could and signed up to tell my story about my big boy.

He is all that's on my mind if I'm awake, just trying to find some help so he can be himself again, happy, not in pain and suffering. We keep it clean and not wrap it because it won't dry up; it's constantly leaking a clear bloody liquid. We only wrap it when he goes for a walk, and that is twice a day. My husband cleans it with Epsom salt and warm water and lets it air dry, but it never dries. We also put an antibiotic cream I get from work on it.

It's just getting worse every day, but I have hope there are some good people out there that will help. I hope that no one in the world has to go through this, seeing one of your babies go through something like this. It is really hard to see him this way; it's heartbreaking. I love him so much. We rescued him when he was about 9 months old from Craigslist, and I can tell you he is the best dog. He's always been a good boy; he just wants to be loved on and doesn't like to be alone. He has a sister, a German Shepherd long-haired sable named Thundermoon, and we also have one of his sons, Kreecy. So that is me and Apollo's story. I pray that there are some kind people out there to help me with his surgery or if you know a veterinarian that will take payments in the Las Vegas, NV area or anything like that, I would be very grateful.

Thanks for reading my story about Apollo.

1,200 is the cost of the surgery
