From Taylor's mom, Lisa,
"With Taylor's permission, Troy and I think it is time to give an official update. She relapsed again a year ago, and has been transfusion-dependent for 6 months now. Her specialist at OHSU in Portland has decided that it is time to proceed to her best option for a cure, a bone marrow transplant. Although this is a very difficult decision for Taylor, we are very thankful that bone marrow transplant research has advanced enough in the past 12+ years that it has recently become a sensible option for her diagnosis. God is good, even in the really, really hard times.
Taylor and I are moving to Portland soon for this next step, and her transplant is expected to occur at the end of June or early July. We are told that we will need to stay within 15-20 minutes of OHSU for at least 4-6 months after transplant (Aplastic Anemia is a bit different from other transplants in that they must "wake" her immune system up very slowly). Her transplant team has been in the process of contacting potential donors. We are excited to see what transplant will do for her but also understandably a bit anxious, as we know how risky this can be and for how long she has been struggling for a cure.
We are so extremely thankful for all of the prayers that have been said for her in the past 12+ years. We are coming to you again, asking for even more. First and foremost please pray that things will go as smoothly as possible for Taylor, and that her health will be restored fully. We believe that God has a very bright future planned for her- she recently graduated from Boise State and has plans to go on to pursue a career as a Physician’s Assistant. (She believes that studying for the GRE will be a great way to pass the time in the next several months during recovery). Given her own personal experiences, she has already been able to positively impact so many children who have had similar journeys. (How many of us knew our life’s calling at such a young age?) They have narrowed down the search to three potential donors. We ask that you pray for her donor- wherever they may be- for blessings in their life and for full compatibility. We also ask for prayers for her entire medical team. Please also keep Troy, Carson, Ben and me in your prayers, for wisdom, peace, and strength. Logistically speaking, we have a lot of moving pieces to sort out right now.
Your prayers and encouragement have comforted and strengthened us for so many years, and we are so thankful! We will keep you posted :) Please wish us well!"
