TCS Bleachers

For Mr. Bills who started at Timothy Christian School in 1976, it’s hard to believe that the gym he long prayed for is now 29 years old. This past summer, knowing there was much needed work to be done to the gym floor and bleachers, Mr. Bills sent out an appeal to our alumni asking them to help raise the $120,000 needed to replace both the floor and the bleachers. Thank you to all our alumni who responded to the summer letter. That appeal brought in $17,818.
But there’s more to the story….. God stepped in as ONLY HE could do. In December, just after a basketball practice during Christmas break as everyone was gathering their stuff to go home, a ceiling light fixture caught on fire. Within minutes, there were flames shooting up toward the ceiling and fire raining down onto the gym floor. While everyone was evacuated quickly and safely, a 6’x8’ section of the gym floor melted. When the insurance company came to examine the damage, they concluded that it would be necessary to replace our entire gym floor! By God’s miraculous grace, we now have the money to do the gym floor. We stand in awe at God’s provision and proclaim with the Psalmist, “The Lord has done this and it is marvelous in our eyes” (Psalm 118:23).
We need YOU to help finish the story….Since God took care of the floor, we now just need the money to replace the bleachers. The framework and manual retracting mechanism under the bleachers are so old that it has become practically impossible to pull out and push in the bleachers. Our goal is to replace these original bleachers with motorized ones. As of June 4th, the remaining need is $31,349.
The urgency for the funds comes because the gym floor cannot be completed unless the bleachers are removed from the wall and moved out of the way. To pay $15,000 to remove the old bleachers and put the same dilapidated ones back in does not solve our bleacher problems and is not being a good steward of God’s money. All expert opinions agree that the best use of our money is to put in new bleachers at the same time as the new floor rather than to wait. Thus, it is critical to raise the funds NOW to have the bleachers and the floor replaced at the same time this June!
Many of you have been part of bleacher life. There is nothing better than seeing the bleachers filled with the TCS family cheering on fellow teammates, classmates, faculty and alumni at various events! From volleyball to basketball to RIOT night, to all-school chapels, concerts and graduation, the bleachers are an essential part of building the Timothy community! The gym is an integral part of each and every family’s life at TCS!
