Service Trip to Tanzania

Donation protected
This winter break, I will be working as a volunteer with Neema International, a US-based non-profit organization, based in Kitandu Uru, a remote village in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. I’m writing to ask for your support of this exciting project!

MY INTEREST IN THIS PROJECT

While studying in Colorado this fall, I hopelessly watched as natural disasters unfolded around the world. Like many of my friends, I was initially overwhelmed by the tragedies that were taking place. However, as each relief effort began, I was filled with hope and inspiration by watching the individuals who were dedicated to helping rebuild the impacted communities. As a college student, I was initially disappointed that I wasn’t able to support these efforts financially, but began looking for ways that I could contribute in some other way. I began researching a variety of international organizations and talking to friends and family about opportunities. After considering a variety of options, I decided to dedicate my time to supporting Neema International in Tanzania.

ABOUT NEEMA INTERNATIONAL

Neema International is a US-based, non-profit organization, that is investing in the lives of East Africa’s most promising youth through education and sustainable building projects. Neema International supports nearly 200 children in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. Their two main projects are the support of the Tuleeni Orphanage and The Academy. Through Neema International’s Education Sponsorship Program (NIESP) 150 children are now provided a quality education and the bright future they deserve. NIESP ensures all of the children stay in school as long as they can and are provided health care and any supplies they could possible need at school.

MY PLAN, CONTRIBUTION, AND BUDGET

I have accepted a volunteer position at Neema International starting on December 15th. This is a particularly busy time for the children as they pursue a variety of activities over the Holiday and prepare to return to school in January. During my time in Tanzania, I’ll be mentoring the children, reading with them, mending socks and school clothes, preparing meals, running errands for the local team, and supporting the children and the Foundation in other ways.

Out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of the children, volunteers are not permitted to stay at the orphanage. I will instead be spending the month camping in a nearby, guarded and secure location. In addition to choosing to camp instead of staying in a hotel, I’ve made every effort to minimize my budget for the trip as much as possible.

My budget for the project includes the following:

Roundtrip Airfare to Tanzania from Colorado - $1500
Airport Transfers in Tanzania - $45 each way
Tanzania Travel Visa- $100
Camping Fee - $8 per day
Food - $13 per day

Total Project Budget: $2,194
My Personal Contribution: $1,000

Remaining Budget: $1,194

Any funds raised in excess of my budget will be donated to Neema International.

Thank you so much for your support of this life-changing opportunity.
