A message from Taylor:
In the springtime right before my second round of PT school clinicals, I developed debilitating pain that woke me up every single night. I typically don’t like to be a complainer, but my symptoms brought me to see three different physicians. The first two assumed me to be just your regular active, healthy twenty-something. However, the third physician actually listened to me and started the ball rolling on ordering tests and scans.
On June 1st, I was then diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer that affects your blood cells and lymphatic system. Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is most often diagnosed in people in their early twenties; people who are usually otherwise the picture of perfect health. People like me. To say this was a scary diagnosis would be more than correct. But, I am lucky enough to be supported by the best family, friends, doctors, and nurses around to get me through this sucky reality.
Nonetheless, through all this scariness and unknown, I can’t help but feel sick to my stomach about how kids and their families may feel to hear the same news. That’s why I would love to come together as a friends and family to support kids with cancer and their families. Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo (who is a Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor) funds cancer research and provides support to families at children’s hospitals through his foundation, The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation. I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to give back and to show our support for little ones who are unnecessarily fighting this fight.
