Merida's Orphanage Donation Fund

Hello friends and family!We, Rachel and Taylor, are proud to share that we will be embarking on a 16 week volunteer trip to Merida, Mexico where we will be working in an orphanage. We will begin our journey in late July and return home just before Thanksgiving. The children we will be mentoring are those who have come from backgrounds of domestic abuse, have run away from home, or are living on the streets. With the children, we will be focusing on activities to stimulate their physical coordination, mental development and social maturity. We  will serve as mentors and strive to act as the role models these children lack in their everyday lives. Unfortunately, while the program provides us with the basic materials for these activities, we will be responsible for purchasing the additional necessities in order to fully achieve our goals.In addition to providing our own transpotation and housing, we will also be asked to purchase supplies to better provide for the children. We are very excited for this opportunity and want to make a difference in these children lives. We truly believe in the wise words of Mahatma Ghandi in which he claims: "The only way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." While we graciously accepted this oppurtunity to volunteer, we realize that we cannot do this alone. It is through the strength of the relationships of our loved ones and close friends that we find the courage to embark on this incredible journey. This is where we need your help! We would greatly appreciate any contribution you would be willing to donate (no donation is too small) and would be very thankful if you could share this message with your friends as well! The money you donate will be used entirely on the children and their needs. If you have any further questions about how we will be using this money and what all we will be doing while we are at the orphanage, please don't hesitate to ask! We plan to blog about our journey so that we may share this special experience with all of you.
