Tawatha's Medical Transportation

It's so hard to tell our story.  I have stopped and cried so many times, but this is how it goes. In early November 2016, our healthy 29 year old daughter was rushed to the hospital unable to breathe in Springfield, IL.  The doctors had to put her on a ventilator to help her breathe. After running several tests, it was discovered that she had a severe UTI infection and became sepsis with a rare blood poison.  By the 5th day, she had lost all feelings and was unable to move.  The doctors did more test and discovered she had clots on her spine.  The clots on her spine paralyzed her and now she’s a quadriplegic with a trach, and is now ventilator depended.  Since she is so ill and critical no local or close to home ventilator facilities would take her. We tried hard to get her home, but that wasn’t an option.  She needed critical urgent care. The only facilities that would accept her are in Chicago, IL.  It was so hard to imagine we would have to be so far away from our precious daughter and sister. So for the last year, me ,my husband and son, have been faithfully traveling every week  back and forth to Chicago, a four and a half hour trip, to see our daughter and sister –  staying overnight in hotels just to be close to her. My husband and I both work and the only time we can see her is on our days off, holidays or vacations.  She has been in and out of the hospital so many times and so close to death each time, it is hard to keep track of it all.  It has been a true nightmare to be so far away from your child and not be able to comfort her every step of the way. What is hardest of all is that she still has her mental capabilities, and is fully aware of everything going on around her.  She has now become really depressed, has stopped eating altogether, and is willing to give up because she is so lonely. She has even stopped winging off her ventilator, something that is direly needed for her to get better. Finally after trying for over a year to get her closer to home, we have found a facility that will be 45 minutes away from home that will accept her. We now have one obstacle that is hindering us from getting her there and that’s additional funding for her medical transportation. We are reaching out and asking for help with the medical transportation. The transportation is so high because she is a quadriplegic with a trach and ventilator which requires a nurse, oxygen and monitoring for over 5 hours by ambulance. We thank God for each and every day that we have her here, as it is nothing short of a blessing. Please help us to get our little girl home.

Thanking you in advance for your help and support and God Bless you all!
