**Funds donated will be dispersed as soon as possible and priority will be given to those who, for whatever reason, may not have ready access to government assistance.**
Tartine workers organized because we wanted a better life for all of us, because we love and care about the people we work with on a daily basis. We believe that all workers deserve to able to live and care for their families with dignity. This is what motivated us to take on the extremely difficult task of organizing our workplace.
With the outbreak of COVID-19, we are facing an entirely new challenge to our ability to care for ourselves and our families. Many of us are preparing for financial hardship as restaurant traffic slows and we brace for potential mandatory closures.
While unemployment benefits may be able to help some of us, we know that the system will be overburdened and claims may take a long time to process. Some of us, for one reason or another, may not have access to unemployment insurance.
We know that this will result in difficulties for our fellow workers. Some may struggle to make rent, pay bills, or other expenses during this time. We intend to use this fund to help our coworkers dealing with specific hardships due to virus-related slowdowns. We know the system will be overloaded for assistance — this 200k goal could sustain are 200+ co-workers for two weeks, it’s not much but we are trying the best we can.
