On 23rd February my husband and I are taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. Kilimanjaro is the highest free standing mountain in the world, standing at 5,895 m, rising above the plains of Tanzania.
It will take us 8 days, 6 to reach the summit. Camping in tents on the mountain, having to endure a lack of oxygen and extremely low temperatures.
Unfortunately living by the sea we cannot do any high altitude training, but we are doing many hikes, walks and runs to try and be as fit as we can.
We are raising money for Rowcroft hospice and a refugee camp playschool in Bulgaria.
Rowcroft care for more than 2,000 people across South Devon every year. Patients come from all walks of life. Whether you’re 18 or 80, if you have a life-limiting illness such as cancer, heart disease or MND, they are there for you.
Rowcroft touched us personally last year, caring for Adams Dad. Adam was overwhelmed by the love and care his Dad received as a patient at Rowcroft.
Harmanli refugee playschool is run by two unpaid and unfunded ladies from England. Their aim has been to set up and run a centre for play based learning and therapeutic play for children. Most have had their homes and all their possessions destroyed by war, many have lost family members and all have experienced extreme trauma. The play school provides a safe environment in which children can play, relax, learn and forget about the grown up worries that they spend so much time exposed to.
We have been visiting & supporting this camp in Bulgaia for a number of years. We also take Christmas stockings to the children there each year.
These two charities are both close to our hearts. 100% of all the money raised will be divided equally between them.
We would really appreciate any donations for these worthwhile causes.
