Tara's Student Exchange to Tasmania

This post is on behalf of our teenaged daughter, Tara Fowler, who attends Owen Sound District Secondary School and was just accepted as an exchange student at Hobart College in Tasmania (Australia) for her first term of their grade 11 high school year! We know other exchange students who have shared with us how positive their experience was and the impact it had on their life and hoped that our children would also experience studying abroad. 

Tara has been accepted to the 10-week Study Abroad program at Hobart College starting on February 7, 2018. Our family is contributing to the costs of her air travel and accommodations and Tara herself has been working as a summer student for Big Brothers Big Sisters to save and contribute to the cost of her exchange as well. Her student visa has been paid for and granted and our cousins Mark and Marie Edwards (and their 2 daughters) have been approved to be the host family as part of the Home Stay program through the Government Education and Training International (GETI) in Tasmania.

The surprise to us on July 25th was with the Letter of Offer for her to acceptance to participate in the exchange, was actual tuition costs of AUD $3650.00 due in full by October 25th of 2017! We are hoping that by posting on Go Fund Me, Tara can raise some of the additonal  cost of her international tuition fees.

Tara is a very polite and determined student and will represent Canada extremely well during her time in Tasmania. Tara will keep us all updated with photos of many new experiences that she will have and gladly post and share with all of us.
