Taos Proctor was medically air evacuated from Crescent City as a result of an early morning explosion of a propane device he was operating to light a fire in the cold morning air on Tuesday January 16, 2018. He is currently hospitalized at the burn unit at St. Francis Hospital which is the premiere burn unit in the San Francisco. He underwent his first surgery on the 19th and is immobilized for three days (He may have to undergo future surgery). Currently we expect his hospitalization to last a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks after which he will face a lengthy recovery process that will involve several trips to San Francisco.
His burns are 2nd and 3rd degree and those cover 23% of his body, with other less involved minor burning. His hands, face/eyes were luckily not involved in any significant manner. He has participated in physical therapy and will continue to do so as recommended by his medical team.
Kelly flew to his side the evening of the 16th and remains with him to support him through this very difficult time. She has secured a hotel room a half a block from the hospital to be available 24/7, and has spent the majority of her time in his room with him helping with his medical needs and assisting him with oxygen masks, tubes, etc.
At this point to support them we are asking that you contribute what you can to insure first Kelly's stay with Taos, and that his lengthy home recovery is supported including trips to San Francisco as needed. It is likely that his recovery will require months of specialized attention and will restrict his mobility in a significant fashion. It is our intention to up date this site on a weekly basis to keep all of his friends/family informed.
