Her celebration of life will be held on:
Saturday June 23, 2018 at 2pm at the
Highwood Memorial Center
128-5 Ave W High River AB

The hopes of this Go Fund Me campaign is to help Tammy Szilagyi’s legacy live on through her family and to support Dean as he continues to shape and mold their children to be respectful, contributing members of their community which they love so much. As the saying goes…. It takes a village.

The reason behind $17,000 as the goal is special; it was Tammy’s hockey jersey #17. It would be incredible to achieve this goal, but it would be amazing to exceed it. She touched many lives. Let’s pull together as a team and help fulfill Tammy’s final wishes.

Tammy - mother of 4 children:
 Jordan 13
 Katie 11
 Abby 9
 Brett 3

Wife to Dean for 24 years, a sister, a daughter, and friend, as well as many other roles to a lot of other people. She lived every moment in order to create beautiful memories for her children….memories that will last their lifetime.

Tammy was born in Regina and met Dean at 16 years old. They later married and started a family. During this time in Regina, they were part of the hockey community as a billet family for 8 years for the WHL Regina Pats. In 1999, they made the trip to Boston to watch two of their billets make the NHL draft.

They moved to Okotoks in 2009, they immediately became a part of the community. Tammy played roles in the Okotoks Minor hockey association as a web administrator and board member. You could also find her in the stands cheering her own kids on as a hockey mom.  As a family, they were also involved with the baseball community in Okotoks.

Tammy herself played hockey with a group of women who are forever bonded by the love of hockey. The friendships and support that has evolved is truly one of life’s greatest gifts. The times these women have spent together are forever cherished. As teammates know, there are always celebrations to be had as well as tears to be shed; there is never a moment of being alone as it is always together as a team.

During her battle with Metastatic Malignant Melanoma, a type of Stage IV cancer, Tammy’s focus and strength was inspirational to many. Her drive to survive and beat this cancer was evident every day.

On March 29, 2018, a celebration was held to acknowledge her inspiration and strength with her last hockey game of the season. Surrounded by teammates, family, and friends, she played the game she loved. Although everyone who knew of her battle, hoped she would play again, this would end up being her last hockey game. She passed away peacefully in hospital with Dean by her side on June 4, 2018. Tammy battled her cancer like any warrior, and she lived every moment to its fullest potential for her family and friends.

Please donate to help fulfill Tammy’s final wishes. Her spirit will forever be a part of the communities she touched, and she will be missed dearly. Let’s help support her family.
